A new transcription of the original orchestral score commissioned by Will Baker and the UCLA Wind Ensemble, this two-movement concerto for bass trombone is a phenomenal showcase of both soloist and ensemble. The first movement, There's a beacon fair, is calm and bright, with brief moments of tension, and begins and ends with a series of quiet chords that lull the listener into a place of peace and nostalgia. The second movement, There falls a flood of fire, shatters this dream-world, and races off on a whirlwind journey through a place of turmoil and fear, with only brief moments of respite. From the opening phrase to the closing chords, this 20-minute concerto will have your audience on the edge of their seats.

Job’s Lament is a modern reimagining of the Baroque lament and ground bass forms, drawing inspiration from the great Handel and Purcell laments. The work constitutes a dialogue between grief and hope, with moments of intense anguish as well as expectation and longing. Conceived for one-player-per-part wind ensemble, much of the piece is scored for chamber groups within the ensemble, with exposed solos in most parts. This piece was commissioned by a consortium headed by Dr. Timothy Shade and the Wichita State University Wind Ensemble.

Originally commissioned by Eduardo Marturet and the Miami Symphony Orchestra, this nine-minute concert opener is transcribed for wind ensemble by Dr. Timothy Shade. Orbits is inspired by the order evident in the laws of the natural world, specifically in gravitational phenomena. Constantly spiraling around itself motivically and harmonically, the piece maintains a steady forward trajectory as it spins full-circle. Described by the South Florida Classical Review as "an immensely appealing crowd-pleaser that displays a real flair for instrumental writing". Listen to the orchestral version of Orbits here!

This 22-minute work for wind ensemble is in two seamless movements, subtitled Reflection and Refraction. Inspired by the ability of water to both perfectly reflect or distort its surroundings, the central melodic and motivic material of the piece is shared between the two movements, and transformed both on a formal and local scale. The result is a vivid journey through the extremes of the wind ensemble, from its most soloistic to its most massive. Scored for 43-47 players, this work is concieved for a one-player-per-part ensemble, and has many exposed solos for color instruments, such as piccolo, soprano saxophone, bass clarinet, bassoon, and keyboards.
